Restorative Practices Planning Circles, August, 2021

Description:
Welcome to the Minnesota Department of Education School Climate Center Restorative Practices in Schools & Communities Planning Circles. Restorative practices (RP) are drawn from the Indigenous people & communities of color around the world. Restorative practices are an approach schools can use to improve school climate, build community & repair relationships.

The Minnesota Department of Education, in partnership with the Legal Rights Center, Mickelson Consulting, Peacemaker Resources & the Winona School District, is offering two-day Planning Circles for Restorative Educators, August 2-3 or 9-10 or 16-17, from 9:00- 3:30 each day.

The Planning Circles will provide school & district teams (as well as individuals) a supportive space to:
• Connect with other restorative educators with ideas & wonderings for the new school year.
• Reconnect to restorative learnings.
• Imagine a school year of working with each other, with students & with families.
• Create kind guideposts for designing RP to support staff, students & families, to center racial justice in the school community & to develop capacity for repairing relationships with a restorative planning guide.

Participants will explore MDE implementation resources & share their restorative learnings as well.

The two-day Planning Circles will meet on-line, with a RP Online trainer to hold the space for everyone’s’ hopes & concerns. Each online circle will be limited to 15 people.

School & district teams who wish to hold their Planning Circles in their own buildings may contact Nancy Riestenberg, 651-582-8433 for Planning Circle resources & suggestions for circle keepers.
